New Crop of Sitcom Women Can Dish It Like the Big Boys

I am not that excited about this season's lineup. There does not seem to be alot of diversity on any of the shows. Even some of my regular shows have lost the diversity it had a year ago. It seems as if the only time I will see diversity this season is watching football. Wow!!!

In “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” the heroines bicker over who is the Mary in their relationship and who is merely Rhoda. They are referring of course to “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” which cemented the rule that the prettier, nicer friend is the star and the sarcastic one is the sidekick.

That tenet of television comedy has been swept aside by a cluster of new sitcoms about young, single women.

On CBS on Monday, Kat Dennings makes her debut as the sardonic star of “2 Broke Girls,” and her sidekick is sweet, soigné and a punching bag.
