FEC: John Edwards must pay back $2.3 billion

This should come as no surprise to anyone. This may be the 'unspoken compromise' that will keep him out of jail. Either way, this is a sad day in politics. I really liked him as a candidate. He seemeed like he really had a heart for the people. Oh well, another one bites the dust!!!

John Edwards must pay back $2.3 million in federal matching funds given to his 2008 presidential campaign, the Federal Election Commission ruled on Thursday.

The decision was unanimous against Edwards, who was indicted in June on eight federal felony charges for alleged violations of campaign finance laws related to his cover-up of an affair.

In comments during the hearing, Commissioner Donald McGahn called the federal indictment the “pink elephant in the room” and asked Edwards’ lawyers whether the criminal charges might have an eventual impact on the FEC’s ruling.
