TSA: 95 year old woman must remove adult diaper

I know we have to be careful with everyone. But, I don't think people should be treated inhumanely. There is a correct way to do things and if it went down like this, this was wrong. However, I cannot believe that the daughter did not have another diaper for her mom to change into in case she did have an accident. Every week there is another story with TSA or an airline, it appears as if there needs to be an assessment of their policies and procedures to see if any changes need to be made.

According to the Northwest Florida Daily News, a woman filed a complaint with the Department of Homeland Security alleging that her 95-year-old mother was asked by Transportation Security Administration officials to remove her adult diaper in order to comply with a pat-down search.

The incident reportedly took place June 18 when Jean Weber's mother, who is in the final stages of leukemia, was attempting to fly from Northwest Florida Regional Airport to Michigan to visit family members. Weber's mother required the assistance of a wheelchair to pass through the security.

Sari Koshetz, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration in Miami who would not comment specifically on the case, told the Daily News that it is policy to pat-down passengers in wheelchairs.

“TSA cannot exempt any group from screening because we know from intelligence that there are terrorists out there that would then exploit that vulnerability,” Koshetz told the paper.
