I have to admit, Michael Steele as of late has been impressing me. He seems to be speaking more freely lately. I have seen him with Rachel Maddow and Ed Schultz, and he has been pretty good. I don't always agree with him but it is always good to hear from the other side.
Michael Steele clearly has a career ahead of him in television.
(For anyone who doubts, check out this, ahem, lively exchange between Steele and Ed Schultz on “Real Time with Bill Maher” from a few months ago.)
The question is, where?
My money’s been on MSNBC for a while now, mostly because his appearances on “The Rachel Maddow Show” in the weeks after he left the Republican National Committee chairmanship seemed like an unlikely, but quite mutually respectful fit. Steele is at his best when he’s in his ideological enemies’ territory.
Early reports were that he was talking to CNN and Fox News, but today The Hill reports that he is, indeed, in talks with MSNBC for a political analyst gig.
Steele wasn’t ready to confirm that just yet.
“I can’t answer that question just yet,” he told POLITICO. “We’re talking to a bunch of folks, but I have nothing to say at this moment.”
He added that he’s been waiting by the phone to hear from his lawyers, so it sounds like any talks are in their final moments.
An industry source said that Steele was, indeed, in talks to get the MSNBC gig, with an announcement expected soon.
