I am glad to see Nancy Pelosi at the table. She is a tough negotiator and she is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. Pelosi has the pulse of the people and fights until the bitter end. She has an end game when she sits down at the table. That in itself is refreshing. Boehner should have been paying closer attention to Pelosi's leadership style. It would come in handy for him right now.
If the White House and congressional negotiators hatch a deal to cut the deficit, they will need support from Democrats in the House to ensure it becomes law. Whether those Democrats fall in line will depend on how Nancy Pelosi plays it.
On Thursday during a press conference, the liberal stalwart of San Francisco went on the attack against what she said were Republican proposals to cut student loans by $30 billion. "Not one red cent from any of those special interests, or those who should be paying their fair share, jeopardizing the opportunity for education for these young people," Ms. Pelosi told reporters, holding up a penny by way of illustration.
