Wisconsin Senate passes voter ID bill

Here we go. I have mentioned before that 26 states were introducing legilsation that would have a direct impact on voting rights. Well, Wisconsin has just passed a bill requiring an ID as well as something similiar to a 'poll tax'. This is wrong on so many levels. However, these are the people that so many voted for. It is unfortunate that the Republicans in these states did not run on these issues they are passing in these state sessions. Making the ballots of the homeless invalid because they haven't lived in an area long enough is, in my opinion criminal. I hope you know what is happening in your state legislative session.

The Wisconsin state Senate passed a controversial bill Thursday that would require voters to present a valid form of identification when voting in Wisconsin elections. The bill will now go to Gov. Scott Walker, who is expected to sign it next week.

After two days of debate, senators voted across party lines to limit discussion Thursday morning to one hour. At 11 a.m., the time of the vote, eight Democratic Senators did not vote in protest over the confusing way in which Senate President Mike Ellis, R-Neenah, conducted voting, cutting off state Sen. Fred Risser, D-Madison, during a speech.

Assembly Bill 7, commonly known as the voter I.D. bill, was introduced in February and aims to counteract voter fraud in Wisconsin's polling places. However, the bill has caused uproar among protesters, who argue the bill does more to suppress voters than it does to counteract voter fraud, a problem Democrats say does not exist in Wisconsin.
