Bobby Jindal supports La. birther bill

We have not heard from Jindal since his response to the President's first State of the Union address. This, is the most relevant issue he wants to support? Wow, some people will do and say anything to get in the news.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will sign a “birther bill” if one comes to his desk, though his fellow Republican Gov. Jan Brewer just vetoed such a bill in Arizona.

“It’s not part of our package, but if the legislature passes it we’ll sign it,” press secretary Kyle Plotkin told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Brewer on Monday vetoed her state’s bill, calling it “a bridge too far” and “a distraction.”

Two Republicans in Louisiana’s House introduced a bill last week that would require presidential candidates to file a sworn affidavit that they were born in the United States, and submit it along with an original or copy of their birth certificate.

One of the bill’s sponsors, Republican state Rep. Alan Seabaugh, said he doesn’t consider himself a “birther” who doubts that President Barack Obama was born in the United States, but that, as a lawyer, he’d like to see the issue clarified. “This is from the standpoint of cleaning up an area of the law where there appears to be a gap,” he told the Times-Picayune.

Plotkin did not immediately respond to POLITICO’s request for an explanation of why Jindal would support the bill, but he did tell the paper that the governor believes that Obama was born in the United States.
