NBA lockout: Players reject proposal, rhetoric escalates as deadline looms

In my opinion, there will not be an NBA season. I am saddened by this, but I understand the players. I wish they could all just get along.

With the clock ticking on the 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline set by NBA Commissioner David Stern for the league’s players to accept the latest contract offer from owners — or have it pulled off the table — 43 NBA players met in New York Tuesday and announced they were rejecting the proposal.

Union president Derek Fisher stood next to union chief Billy Hunter and said during a televised news conference that players were willing to continue talks but, without further concessions from the owners, “we don’t see a way to get a deal done between now and the end of business tomorrow.”

“Our orders are clear,” Fisher said. “Right now, the current offer that is on the table from the NBA is not one that we can accept.”
