Although he has admitted to sending the photos of himself, he is not resigning from his position. He admits to lying in the beginning because he was embarrassed by the photos coming out. " Everything I said last week were lies." He accepts full responsibility for his actions. He apologizes for hurting his wife, his family and his constituents. He is sorry that the women involved have had their lives turned upside down.
He was very apologetic to his wife. Very emotional about hurting his wife and family. "I did a very dumb thing", Weiner said.
The wife was not present at the press conference, which I find to be refreshing. She was not auditioning for the role of 'The Good Wife', which is good for her. I believe he was sincere in his apology.
When will people realize that they need to use common sense when using social media. There is a record of everything.
I hope that this closes the door on this issue. Unfortunately, I don't think it will. It appears that there may be some legal issues as well as ethical issues. Depending on the age of the women, whether or not he used government resources and the like, will determined whether or not he will be charged with anything.
I don't think he will stepdown. With the number of Republicans (Vitter, Ensign, Gingrich) that have been caught in similiar or even worse situations, are either still in office, stayed in office until the bitter end, or running for President. So, in my opinion the call for his resignation is premature. However, I do believe that had he came clean from the beginning, this would possibly be a non story by now.
Stay tuned as more details unfold.
