GOP frosh to Obama: Send us a debt limit plan

I don't know if this is 100% accurate, but I do not recall in recent history any time that the President has been sent so many letters with demands on his leadership. I don't know if this happened to President Bush or not. If so, it was done quietly. I know it was in the news. It is almost as if they, these Republicans, think they can tell the President what to do. I think they are under some false sense of authority and power with their wins in November. November wins did not help them in New York a couple of weeks ago. In my opinion, the President needs to remind them that he is the Commander in Chief, and that he does not need any more letters with demands.

GOP freshman Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.) penned a letter to the president with 75 of her rookie colleagues Monday, requesting a specific plan for reducing the debt and reforming entitlements ahead of a high-stakes debt ceiling negotiation that will come up against a deadline of August 2nd.

“After meeting with both President Obama and Treasury Secretary Geithner this week, I and my colleagues are not confident that the administration has a credible plan to reduce our debt, so it’s time to demand one,” Black said in a statement accompanying the letter. “In light of now multiple credit ratings agencies threatening to downgrade American bonds without significant long-term steps toward deficit reduction, it is time for the president to stop sitting on the sidelines of this debate.”
