EPA Connects 'Fracking' To Water Contamination

You are sure to hear more about this in the coming weeks. And, you can rest assure, that the debate is surely to heat-up as we get closer and closer to the election.

If you haven't heard, basically, local resident have been complaining for years about the fracking process is causing contamination in their water. In some case, it has been reported that the harmful chemicals "allegedly" have been causing residence to light their water on fire.

Well for the first time, the EPA has started to look into the matter and the results are staggering. NPR Reports, "For the first time, a government study has tied contamination in drinking water to an advanced drilling technique commonly known as "fracking."

The Environmental Protection Agency released a draft study Thursday tying the technique, formally called hydraulic fracturing, to high levels of chemicals found in ground water in the small town of Pavillion, Wyo. EPA scientists found high levels of benzene, a known carcinogen, and synthetic glycol and alcohol, commonly found in hydraulic fracturing fluid.

The gas industry and other experts have long contended that fracking doesn't contaminate drinking water. The EPA's findings provide the first official confirmation to the contrary."
