Alabama Officials To Craft Immigration Law Changes

Of course the governor of Alabama is looking to make changes to the immigration law. After the arrest of the Mercedes Benz executive from Germany, they have no choice. I am sure they are going to put another spin on it to make it look like they are concerned about the people. I hope the citizens of Alabama will deal with the governor at the appropriate time.

Alabama's governor said Friday he's working to simplify a tough new immigration law, which critics say has damaged the state's reputation internationally and caused hardships for legal residents. The law has been called the strictest in the United States.

Gov. Robert Bentley (R) said officials want to eliminate unnecessary burdens on legal businesses and residents and protect faith-based services while ensuring that everyone working in the southern state is legal.

"We recognize that changes are needed to ensure that Alabama has not only the nation's most effective law, but one that is fair and just, promotes economic growth, preserves jobs for those in Alabama legally, and can be enforced effectively and without prejudice," the governor said.

The governor didn't offer any specific changes they will consider, but the law's opponents took his comments as an encouraging sign that they will go deeper than the "tweaks" he previously said were needed.

Aides to the governor and legislative leaders said details are being worked out.
