Is this the Nation we've become?

Twice in the last week I have been taken aback by the audiences at the GOP debates. First last week, the audience cheered when it was mentioned by moderator Brian Williams that Gov. Perry had signed off on 235 executions. More than any modern day governor. The crowd cheered and he played into by stating that he does not lose any sleep about those executions. At the Tea Party debate hosted by CNN, the audience cheered that uninsured people should die.

When did we become this nation that we no longer care about our fellow man? For a nation that proclaims to be built on 'Christian principles', we are not by any means following the teachings of Christ. There is no way that Jesus is pleased with some of the decisions that we have made as a country. We are definitely not acting like we are our brother's keeper.  We are the richest country in the world, so they say. And yet, we have the highest poverty rate of any other civilized, industrialized country.  Something is wrong with this picture.  We throw away more food than we will ever eat.

I would hope that there is a moderator that would challenge the crowd and the candidates to denounce this type of behavior.

I am truly sickened by it all.
