Rep. Waters to black voters: 'unleash us' on Obama

I think that the CBC should have its own jobs plan. In my opinion, every time the Tea Party or Rush, Sean, Glenn or whomever say something about the President that is not policy related, the CBC and the Progressive Caucus should be on TV, radio, twitter, facebook, talking about it. Some of these battles, they should be fighting for the President. If has to fight all of the battles, what does he need them for? Every deal/bill that has been made is because of the President. They have sat quietly on the sidelines waiting for him to give them direction. Some of them have been in office almost as long as he has been alive, if they haven't figured out what to do by now, then it is time for them to be replaced.

This tour is not in the city because it is themed the 'Rural Tour 2011' tour. May be when he gives his speech next month he will go to the city. How many jobs is being created on this 'jobs' tour by the CBC? How many job training classes have been held on this tour? The black unemployment rate has historically been higher. Why now is it so important now for the President of the United States to address it? I hope we don't allow this to distract us from what is really going on.

Sparks flew Tuesday during the Congressional Black Caucus "For the People Jobs Tour" town hall in Detroit, MI, as black caucus members told the mostly black audience to "unleash" them to confront President Barack Obama on the issue of jobs.

During the sometimes heated town hall, peoples' frustration over their economic conditions overwhelmed decorum and order.

California Rep. Maxine Waters expressed her and other Black Caucus members' dilemma of having to walk a line. As representatives from communities that have had great love for President Barack Obama, it can be anywhere from difficult to impossible for Waters and the other members to be as critical of the president as she wanted to be.

"We don't put pressure on the president," said Waters. "Let me tell you why. We don't put pressure on the president because ya'll love the president. You love the president. You're very proud...to have a black man [in the White House] ...First time in the history of the United States of America. If we go after the president too hard, you're going after us."
