OU's Travis Lewis to miss 8 weeks

At least this injury is happening right now at the beginning of the season. In eight weeks, we will know what kind of team the Sooners are. If he comes back, he will be back in time for the OU/Tx game. That will be exciting to see. I hope we don't have too many more injuries or our pre-season #1 ranking is over before the season starts.

“We’re disappointed for Travis,” OU coach Bob Stoops said in a statement. “He has worked very hard and I know he’ll want to get back as quickly as possible.”

Lewis is a senior from San Antonio and last month was voted the Big 12's preseason Defensive Player of the Year. He led the Sooners in tackles in each of his first three seasons and ranks ninth in school history in career tackles.

Stoops said sophomore Corey Nelson will move into Lewis’ position and that sophomore Tony Jefferson will work at the nickel back. Nelson has been working as the strong side linebacker, while Jefferson has been experimenting at free safety.

Javon Harris, who backed up at strong safety last season, will get more time at free safety.

“We’ll adapt in the meantime,” Stoops said. “We’ve recruited very well and have some excellent athletes in those positions. I’m confident that those players will perform well.”
